Today is my last working day and since tomorrow I’ll go on vacation. That’s good. That’s what I need right now.

What we gonna do? The answer is simple - enjoy our small trip across the several Europe countries. Initially we wanted to spend this vacation somewhere in more warmer climate, but we’ve changed our mind. So, the long-postponed trip will include following countries: Belarus, Poland, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands, France. Not bad for me taking into account that I’ve never been in Europe before.

I’m not going to write any reports neither in Russian or English language, but I take my photo-camera so everyone will be given a chance to see some pictures.

My laptop is not deserve to be taken in our trip so I won’t post during the trip. But if I can I’ll make some notes to my twitter (the updates are now protected so you need to send me request and I’ll add you to my followers list).

The last week I spent working on my VocRecaptor project and did some improvements, but I’m afraid I don’t have enougth time to release this version. Anyway, who cares

After I bought my new photo camera my activity here decreased hugely. Maybe this is not the only reason. Maybe it’s an increasing workload, maybe it’s a tiredness, maybe it’s a shortage of daylights or something else. I almost don’t read books on personal development, I still postpone my certification, I listen less technical podcasts than before. My VocRecaptor project is frozen and I don’t have any aspiration to continue its development. At the same time I write more in my russian livejournal blog, I upload more photos to my flickr. And more, I feel more relaxed and even forged how to be overwhelmed with a big pile of half-completed tasks and be in a rush. Anyway, I think this period of inactivity will end after my vacation I’m going (and I really hope) to go this month. So stay tuned.

And me killed GX WebManager And have no idea how to fix it yet. Discussing it here.

This Sunday I visited an extreme championship in our city. Past years I’ve always visited such events because it was orginized by our extreme web-site extreme.vsaratove.ru and where I’m still an administrator of board forums and because I really like take photos on this competetions, expecially make pictures of skaters. This Sunday I tested my new photo-camera (I bought Canon 450D for start). All pictures are available at my photo-gallery. It’s also possible to see pictures from past competetions and other events. Enjoy.

Almost a day I spent trying to setup a search engine of GX WebManager 9.5.2 Community edition on my Windows XP local environment.  The solution is easy.

As you can see in this topic there is no need to setup a service and change its configuration files. Steps to do:

1. Find C:\GXWebManager\webmanager-searchengine\conf\credential.xml file and change <credential pattern=".*localhost.*" type="postform" username="gxsearch" password="engine"> line to <credential pattern=".*localhost.*" type="postform" username="administrator" password="adminadmin"> or you can create gxsearch user with password engine and grant him administrator rights

2. Go to http://localhost:8080/web/setup and on Search Tools tab specify:
URL: http://localhost:8080/web/webmanager?id=39016
Host: localhost,127.0.0.1
Depth: Infinity

Hit Index button and wait. After indexation is finish you can see the status in Server status area.

One of the most helpfull features I found in Skype is an ability to edit the last message you sent by pressing Ctrl-Z shortcut. The other way you can do it (and you can change any of your messages) is to right click on the message and hit Edit message menu item.

I have got the following issue with combo-box drawing in java applications (including NetBeans IDE):

I have Ubuntu 8.04.1 with “human” theme and “extra” visual effects turned on. Java version is jdk 1.6.0_10-rc. I don’t remember for sure but it seems I had the same issue on my previous Ubuntu installation 7.10 with jdk 6u02.

Any ideas how to fix it? Everywhere in operating system interface everything is OK with combos.

Update. The solution seemed to lay on the surface. The idea was to change the default jvm look and feel and force NetBeans use it. Default look and feel for swing applications can be changed as described here in j2se tutorial. In my case the path of swing.properties file was the following: /opt/jdk1.6.0_10/lib/swing.properties. All the swing applications I ran had the specified look and feel. But not NetBeans itself. That’s because the IDE uses a UIManager to specify look and feel and to override it I need to dive deeper. I don’t need it. But if you wish - take a look at this discussion. Here you can find some some ideas.

Finally I’ve installed Ubuntu 8.04.1. The problem was that my live cd couldn’t be recognized as bootable. The solution for me was to install windows xp and start installation process from there. But important thing was to create a boot-menu there you can choose loading from HD or from CD. This meny can be created automatically. Congratulations for me.

Today decided to upgrade my Ubuntu 7.10 to Ubuntu 8.04.1. Usually I prefer to reinstall system completely. More than 1.5 hours I spent backuping data from HD, then I formatted my disk and began to boot. At once I got GRUB error 17 and still have no idea how to resolve this issue. I’ve tried to boot from previous version of live CD but still getting this error. Tomorrow I’ll need to find a solution. Phuck. Why I’m always having such hardware and other different kinds of troubles? Hate it.

I’ve found out how to deal with them: if document is saved in doc format you can remove sections with Format->Sections…->Remove commands but after reopening document they will be recovered. So use odt format and forget about that.
