Podcasts I recommend

March 28, 2008

I love listening podcasts and do it regularly. During the last half of year I’ve formed a list of podcasts which I physically have time to listen to and which are interesting for me. I prefer a professional podcasts and here I mean the quality of sound, the diction of a presenter and a quality of the material. I usually listen them on commuting to work and on the way back. As a rule it takes about a 20-30 minutes thus the preferable length of each podcast is up to 30 minutes. Also I don’t like very short podcasts less than 10 minutes because it takes more time to download them and copy to my mp3-player than listen. Probably not much more, but definitely comparable time. As for my favorite themes, here the short list of them: IT, travels, life in different countries, technologies and educational podcasts for those who study English language.

Here the list of my favorite programs:

on learning English

on personal development

podcasts for people interested in java-related technologies

latest news of the world of digital-technology

on different themes

russian podcasts

I’m still looking for more interesting podcasts and will add what I’ll find to these list.

CAE done

October 25, 2007

I’ve passed all others parts of CAE today - reading, listening and use of english. Firstly it was expected that I will take only two first of them, but finaly organizers decided to make all today (probably because I was the only person who comes). I have no idea about the results, but it was more difficult than previous examination I took (FCE). So, let’s wait and see.

CAE writing

October 23, 2007

This morning I took CAE writing examination. It wasn’t very difficult, but I didn’t know some collocations from the first task. In the part when I had to write the task was to write a program for english students in Australia. Asutralia, Australia and again Austraila :) Of course, it the perfect theme for me but it’s strange that I always get the tasks related to this country.

Revealing the "VocRecaptor"

October 4, 2007

In one of my previous posts I mentioned about a small project I was going to start and wich was going to be concerning english words learning. I’ve finished an implementation of the first version. The project name is “Sandlex VocRecaptor” (or simply “VocRecaptor”) and I’m using it already. At this time I need to accomplish a several polishing tasks and some people have already agreed to try it out on Linux. What can I say. In my opinion the program is quite handy at least for my approach to the work with vocabulary. I’ll describe it later in the program’s web-page where the program will be available for download (for free of course).

I’m developing the program using NetBeans and I really like this IDE. Previously my favourite IDE for desktop applications was IntelliJ IDEA but now my personal preferences are moving towards NetBeans.
